Job and Experience – the vicious cycle!

Ever get the feeling that you are trapped in a vicious cycle of fate when it comes to your career? The feeling that you don’t get enough opportunities because you aren’t good enough and you aren’t good enough because you don’t get those opportunities? The feeling of anxiousness, that you are not doing what you should to get to that next level and even if you want to, you cant seem to find a way to do what you want to?

That’s a trick question right? When you look it up, its one of the most common syndromes literally everyone goes through in the early stages of their career. Countless advisers out there even claim to have the hacks to get out of the cycle. The most common of those are networking, being patient, working to get roles that you need without the actual titles, get some more training, so on and so forth. Let me ask this. How many of you have actually found one of these (or any other) really useful and what percentage of you have actually succeeded? If you have found a useful hack, please share with those of us who are still struggling!

This is probably the single most painful cause of frustration among the “younger” work force today. There have been countless memes floating around about how immediately out of school, companies expect you to have an exorbitant level of experience! It loosely ties back to another article I had written a few weeks back – Interviewing – An honest Viewpoint! One of the obvious solutions to this frustration lies with all the recruiters out there! This in turn would mean that companies need to be able to find a system to recruit or promote from within, the people who deserve or even show the resolve to learn new things. Companies need to take a chance and not always take the road most traveled!

A very thought provoking and interesting article that I came across recently, described this dilemma very well and to a small extent even inspired me – You have value, no matter what your age! This described another way people try to break the cycle, unpaid internships to re-skill and gain marketability. The final comment said it all. So many deserving people lose out on lucrative opportunities because of the current closed mindset, its actually quite disheartening.

Kudos to those out there who are still optimistic and are doing all it takes and not giving up on their dreams!
